The common reason given is atonement for our sin. Atonement is right, but there is more.
God put us in this world. He lets us struggle with sin, death, and pain.
But how can God forgive me for the harm I caused another? The person I harmed can say to God,
But I did do it to God. All my sins were cast on Him on the Cross. The Cross gives God the moral authority to forgive.
But because now that all my sins have been done to God, that gives Him the moral authority to judge.
God put us in this world. He lets us struggle with sin, death, and pain.
But how can God forgive me for the harm I caused another? The person I harmed can say to God,
He did it to me, not You.
But I did do it to God. All my sins were cast on Him on the Cross. The Cross gives God the moral authority to forgive.
But because now that all my sins have been done to God, that gives Him the moral authority to judge.
